Hub scientists on ABC’s 7.30 report share worrying findings on spread of invasive fish, tilapia

27 September 2024

Professor Mark Kennard recently featured on ABC’s 7.30 report where he spoke about the number of tilapia found during the hub-supported monitoring of Queensland’s Moonaboola/ Mary River.

Moonaboola/ Mary River is home to some of the nation’s most unique species, including the Mary River cod and the Australian lungfish. But it’s facing a potentially devastating threat: the invasive fish species, tilapia.

This work is part of a broader collaboration with Traditional Owners, land holders, the Burnett Mary Regional Group for Natural Resource Management, the Mary River Catchment Coordinating Committee, the Queensland Government, the Australian Rivers Institute, and the hub.
