Members of the Northern Hub’s Steering Committee and Research Executive Committee gathered in Cairns last week to discuss Hub and project progress, the annual report, this year’s research plan and how to maximise uptake of Hub research.

Hub Director Michael Douglas was pleased with how much the meeting achieved and received positive feedback from committee members and observers.

“At one point, we had 28 people around the table. In addition to more administrative agenda items we talked about an exciting  Hub project that’s looking at how to plan for multiple uses of the north’s land and water, and about possible new research on the unprecedented mangrove loss in the Gulf of Carpentaria,” Professor Douglas said.

The Hub Steering Committee is made up of research users from government, Indigenous, industry and conservation sectors across Western Australia, the Northern Territory and Queensland, as well as Canberra-based Australian Government representatives. The Research Executive Committee represents Hub partners from Charles Darwin University, Griffith University, James Cook University, University of Western Australia, CSIRO, NAILSMA and State and Territory governments.
