A new Hub project led by Graeme Gillespie from the NT’s Department of Environment, Parks & Water Security is trialling a revised ecological monitoring framework in Kakadu National Park and evaluating its effectiveness for detecting and reporting wildlife trends.

The monitoring will inform Park managers on the effectiveness of management actions that address threats to biodiversity. The project is also assessing how the revised ecological monitoring framework can meet Kakadu’s reporting and management priorities for information about both threatened species and the management issues that affect these species.

Project findings will inform improved ecological monitoring methodology across northern Australia, assisting the management of conservation reserves, Indigenous Protected Areas and other areas.
