SCIENCE TO SUPPORT SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN NORTHERN AUSTRALIA
Northern Australia Environmental Resources Hub research delivered new knowledge, tools and partnerships, focusing on:
The Hub research program was organised around a number of issues-driven, regional case studies. These were selected to ensure coverage of a wide range of issues and to ensure that the Hub operated across contrasting land uses and land tenures. The selection of focus regions was also influenced by the Northern Australia White Paper.
The $23.88 million Hub was supported by funding through the Australian Government’s National Environmental Science Program (NESP), matched by contributions from five of the country’s leading academic institutions. Established in June 2015, the Hub concluded in 2021.
The Northern Australia Environmental Resources Hub was one of six hubs in NESP’s first round of funding (ending in 2021). NESP’s second funding round runs from 2021–2027. For more information on the program, see here.
