What are your research interests as they relate to northern Australia?
My research interests centre on the links among human values, wellbeing, and natural resources, particularly as they affect planning and decision-making. This ranges from technical issues – such as the ‘category mistakes’ people make in planning – through to researching how best we can capture peoples’ values in a form that allows synergies and trade-offs to be identified and discussed in multi-stakeholder groups. My overarching aim is to contribute to wiser, better-informed planning and decisions.
What do you love about working in northern Australia?
My career until now has focused on natural resources in the south-west. Working in the north is a great opportunity to look through different eyes at a different landscape – a chance to test, adapt and evolve ideas while working in a fascinating part of Australia.
