What are your research interests as they relate to northern Australia?

One of my main research interests is that relationship between culture and country. I’m interested in figuring out how development can improve things for people who live on the land but also what impacts might come from different types of development. I also want to improve the understanding about how the relationships between researchers and research users can result in better research that informs decision-making and on-ground actions.

What do you love about working in northern Australia?

I’m very excited about getting to know the Kimberley better, in particular the Fitzroy River region. I also love the savannas of north Queensland, and I find the rich cultures of the Torres Strait fascinating. Working in northern Australia is so exciting because it’s wild, there’s so much potential and there’s so much happening. I’m particularly interested in traditional uses of and relationships with natural resources and how we can build on those thousands of years of experience to better inform the future. It’s the perfect place to study those types of relationships and culture.
