Mitchell Cowan
Bio
Mitch is a wildlife ecologist with an interest in movement ecology, animal behaviour, and the impacts of disturbances and conservation techniques on wildlife. Currently, Mitch is a research associate at the University of Western Australia. In this role, his research involves working with Traditional Owners and other research partners to identify hotspots of biodiversity and bush tucker in Kakadu National Park, as well as to investigate the practice of wet-season burning.
Research outputs linked to policy change and decision-making
- 2020: Mitch was an expert contributor to the Federal Government’s prioritisation of fauna impacted by the 2019/20 bushfires. This project identified at-risk species which required rapid management interventions post-fire.
