What are your research interests as they relate to northern Australia?

My research interests involve using spatial science for effective two-way knowledge transfer between researchers and Indigenous communities. This includes building tools to ensure effective communication between communities and developers in the region, ensuring communities have all the information they need to make sound land management and development decisions.

What do you love about working in northern Australia?

I love working with Indigenous communities on land management – learning how to do collaborative research with Indigenous communities through effective communication, knowing how to listen and aiming for two-way knowledge transfer. It’s a privilege to be working in beautiful places, seeing rare and endangered animals, meeting interesting people and listening to their stories, and visiting art centres and meeting amazing artists. The Kimberley is my favourite place to work. I worked for seven years in the region, introducing the area to spatial science through fire mapping and management. I worked extensively with Indigenous communities in the area which opened my eyes to different ways to see and work on country.
