What are your research interests as they relate to northern Australia?
I am interested in exploring new ways of communicating between Indigenous language groups as well as between Indigenous and non-Indigenous groups within the region. I believe that the stories we tell about the country and the animals and plants living there are one the most powerful tools we have and the way we tell those stories makes all the difference.
What do you love about working in northern Australia?
Every time I go to northern Australia I see and learn something new about the country. I love to see the way the seasonal changes manifests itself in the plants, animals, sky, river, the land, and even the people that are local to the area. I will never have seen enough of northern Australia, so I will never tire of going back. Through the Showing and sharing knowledge in the Fitzroy River catchment project, I work with a lot of the language groups in the catchment. For that reason, I enjoy spending time in Fitzroy Crossing, the meeting point of many language groups and communities within the catchment… even better, it’s close to the river for fishing and swimming!
