What are your research interests as they relate to northern Australia?
My work has focused on human and pest animal impacts on freshwater river health across Queensland. As an aquatic ecologist, undertaking research across the extreme wet/dry seasons of northern Australia was of particular interest to me, and the relatively pristine sites were an opportunity to monitor the invertebrate communities of refugial wetlands in response to feral pig disturbance as the seasons progressed with minimal interference from other threats.
What do you love about working in northern Australia?
It is wonderful to have the chance to work in these areas, seeing parts of Australia most will never see. Being able to step away from daily life and work in the bush for a few weeks at a time in remote regions of northern Australia is an experience that I don’t take for granted. Immersing yourself in the natural environment and being able to see the endemic species and unique features of the region is incredible.
