It is our great pleasure to congratulate Professor David Pannell – one of the Resilient Landscapes Hub’s lead researchers – on being selected as a 2023 Fellow of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association (AAEA) in the United States! The AAEA rarely selects fellows from outside the US. However, David’s esteemed career in agricultural economics has made him one of the few Australians to receive this honour.

David has made extensive contributions to agricultural and environmental economics through his research, which has been published in 7 books and 200 journal articles and book chapters. Many of David’s publications – including his research into herbicide resistance and the adoption of agricultural innovations – represented major developments in the field of agricultural economics and are standard references in the field.
Recently, much of David’s research has been focused on environmental economics and the management of environmental resources. This has included his work with the National Environmental Science Program. David has led projects through the Northern Australia Environmental Resources Hub and the Threatened Species Recovery Hub. He is now a project leader and team member on several Resilient Landscapes Hub projects such as Enhancing the resilience of urban rivers and Managing and monitoring resilience in Australia’s national parks.
David is a Professor of Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of Western Australia and Co-Director of the Centre for Environmental Economics and Policy. Through these roles, David has been a highly active and engaged public policy analyst and communicator, and an accomplished teacher, mentor and academic administrator.
David continues to regularly publish articles on a variety of topics around agricultural and environmental economics on his blog Pannell Discussions.
We couldn’t be happier for David to have received such an incredible acknowledgement of his accomplishments!
