What are your research interests as they relate to northern Australia?
My research is broadly around the ecology of rivers, creeks and wetlands. My main interests have focused on investigating the importance of freshwater flows in the ecology of fish, particularly fish recruitment, life history adaptations, environmental flows and flow-ecology relationships.
What do you love about working in northern Australia?
I love that unlike many other rivers I’ve worked on, rivers in northern Australia are still in a relatively natural state and aren’t broken (yet!). I also love the people of the north. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming, and we all want to work together to achieve the best possible outcome. My favourite place to work would have to be the Daly River, Northern Territory. I love how the river changes character with every bend, from its headwaters to its mouth. It’s so packed full of life and is constantly full of interesting surprises!
